If you do a little research, you will find a decent number of projects that are experimenting with ideas for distributed social media, some using ipfs. There's a paper on a project called plebbit. I don't know how far they got with that. You can see in the comments some of the benefits but also hurdles that IPFS brings to the table. There was also a project recently announced on this subreddit about encrypted file sharing among peers. I forget the name, "brig" I think. This would seem applicable to community specific groups (more like close friends than strangers, more like collaboration with file synchronization and less like blogging).
Another project you might look at is: https://orbitdb.org/. They've also added a pub-sub feature that would seem to be a good fit for a social platform.
