For those concerned about data privacy, look into a piece of software called PiHole (https://pi-hole.net). It’s a custom DNS server that allows you to control what data your house and to where. It’s probably the single most effective countermeasure from the security in the privacy perspective that I know of.

Yep, I actually use OpenWRT for the same application. It works incredibly well even on routers that wouldn’t work on an 802.11s mesh with factory firmware. If you like to tinker I would highly recommend checking out their website.
