📦 The official Nextcloud installation method. Provides easy deployment and maintenance with most features included in this one Nextcloud instance.
Nextcloud on its own or with rocket.chat / mattermost / some other tool which enables channels/chat. Nextcloud does come with shared calendars and a kanban board app, which seems fine. I'm less sure of integrating rocket.chat or mattermost with it, because of technical limitations (the software's, but my own even more). In any case, the interface is a little messy, the desktop clients don't work for our purposes, and generally I have the feeling of trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer. Don't get me wrong, I think Nextcloud is wonderful--it's just harder for me to set up if we're doing integrations, less intuitive for the more limited members of the team, and we just don't need that wide array of functionalities.
My sense is that they're moving away from their own apps, based on the (poor and sporadic, tbh) communication from the dev team. I think the clearest indication I got was in this issue on github where the CTO states the documents, tasks and calendar apps that were largely baked in were going the way of the dodo.
As someone who has set up and managed quite a few Nextcloud instances, there are indeed some things that can make your life (and your instance) quite a bit better, on a system and an application level. I can write them up (and maybe post them here) if you're interested. At the very least: Check out https://github.com/nextcloud/all-in-one .
