Is it long-past time to have an “updateable torrent”?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/DataHoarder

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • superhighway84

USENET-inspired, uncensorable, decentralized internet discussion system running on IPFS & OrbitDB

  • Then, there's SuperHighway84 where people could announce what they have. Could create a highway strictly for youtube monitoring and have people create groups for whoever they're archiving.

  • tubearchivist

Your self hosted YouTube media server

  • In the youtube example, let's say everyone has a TubeArchivist or similar running. It places the videos in a named directory for the creator as it downloads them. It's easy to recursively add that directory to IPFS. There's IPNS, the name system of IPFS, which can then point to the latest IPFS files. People could 'pin' (download/seed) that IPNS address to act as a mirror of someone that curates a channel.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • ipfs

    Peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol

  • I'm a big fan of IPFS. It's similar but different to torrents in that as nodes cache things they can act like +1 seed in a way.
