  • Geany

    A fast and lightweight IDE

  • I learned about a great alternative called Geany from a YouTube Channel called Distro Tube. And I think this checks all your boxes. Clicking on the links will take you to the Geany website, and the Geany walkthrough video. I hope this helps. I might not be as advanced as you when it comes to and IDE, but I'm going to use Geany as a replacement for Atom.

  • notepadqq

A simple, general-purpose editor for Linux

  • Heard the Linux Fork of Notepad++ is a super well running editor with plugin support: https://github.com/notepadqq/notepadqq

  • brackets

An open source code editor for the web, written in JavaScript, HTML and CSS. (by brackets-cont)

  • I'm surprised nobody mentioned brackets. Very similar to Atom

  • lite-xl

A lightweight text editor written in Lua

  • VSCodium is perhaps the closest to Atom, but I also wanted to add that I've been enjoying Lite XL a lot. It's extremely light and faster than both, with decent plugin support, but certainly nowhere near that of VSCodium. But it's been quite refreshing to go back to a simpler, more minimalistic, faster experience.

  • vscodium

binary releases of VS Code without MS branding/telemetry/licensing

  • SaaSHub
