Looks like a reasonable tool. nvm is the standard for this, but if asdf is a more general tool, and it works I don't see an issue with it.

An alternative if you're fine just running 1 (perhaps the latest) version of Node is that someone might have also provided operating-system level packages such as Nodesource for Linux: https://github.com/nodesource/distributions
