  • Rufus

    The Reliable USB Formatting Utility

  • I assume you mean the OS itself. That would be from the main website for the OS, there will be a link to an .iso or .img file. On windows you will need some sort of program (I believe Rufus is the goto one) to copy it properly onto a flashdrive to boot from. But most major distros will have instructions on their site how to best do this.

  • Solaar

Linux device manager for Logitech devices

  • For desktops most things "just work". Keep in mind on Linux there will generally not be the bundle of vendor specific drivers for most things; the drivers are built into the kernel already. Some things that do are unusual/industry specific add-on cards, and GPUs. With GPUs AMD tends to be more reliable and performant; but Nvidia will still work (I have been, unfortunately, running Nvidia in my main machine for ~4 years now). Aside from that RGB support is hit or miss, and vendor specific programs to manage say a keyboard or other peripheral will likely not work (although some have open source alternatives like Solaar for Logitech devices.

  • LibreOffice

Read-only LibreOffice core repo - no pull request (use gerrit instead https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/) - don't download zip, use https://dev-www.libreoffice.org/bundles/ instead (by LibreOffice)

  • One that I've used a lot is Libre Office as a MS office copy. I don't use adobe so I wont know. Macfee anti virus is shit anyway and shouldn't be run on anything. Linux wont really need an antivirus at all as long as you don't visit sketchy sites. All you need is a simple firewall program.
