From a brief overview of Mac Catalyst it looks like an oportunity to go all-in with Apple technologies and you can start over for any other platform. As opposed to e.g. React native, which e.g. lots of banking apps are built with, or Progressive Web Apps, or even Kotlin, all of which allow you to have a multi-platform base build.
