HTML can't evaluate expressions, that's it. If you wish to evaluate math expressions you can use a math library like math.js , or just shove it into eval() which is a terrible idea, but an idea nevertheless. Counting the number of appearances is just a string search? Or do you mean like a series, that's a bit more advanced.
