I feel like the right way to do this would be build it on top of a git repo like pass does and then you'd at least get distributed synchronization without too much effort as a built in feature. You could just store iCalendar files directly since pretty much anything can parse those at some level.
There are a few cli calendars. The one I been using mostly has been calcurse http://calcurse.org/
