As the other comment mentioned, you downloaded an unofficial version, which is probably a scam. The only sources for the official version are https://vancedapp.com/ and their GitHub page.

I use one called SmartTubeNext on the chromecast google tv. It doesn't work on phones unfortunately, but if you want ad-free youtube on your tv it's a decent option.

Its a separate app that runs in the background and acts like a proxy filtering out ads. You have to download it from their website and sideload it though. The one on the app store is gimped and doesn't work as well https://blokada.org/. My only complaint is that when I restart my phone I have to restart the app.
