The title is a bit misleading. You're not so much compiling Clojure to FPGAs as using Clojure to generate FPGA logic. That's not quite the same thing. That said, I always thought that something like Piplin would be interesting versus Chisel (written in Scala and used by the RISC-V team) and even Verilog and VHDL. The general Lisp capabilities to create a DSL and Clojure's data-oriented style would match the needs of an HDL well, I should think.
