Now, if you would like to have it even easier, there are many frontends (funny word for GUI) which use MPV and should have pretty much the same functionality as vanilla MPV while also being arguably easier to use.
If you want to have it easy, there are many premade configs out there. This one is a pretty good one, but I prefer to check through the documentation and configure everything by myself (my config, if that's of your interest). A Google search should find you a lot of them anyways.

As for shaders...well, it depends on what ye are searching for. In general using shaders can be a tad overkill, but in any case I would recommend using FSRCNNX for upscaling, SSimDownscaler for downscaling, and KrigBilateral for chroma. DO NOTE, you will need a relatively powerful CPU (or GPU, depending on your config) to run “heavy” shaders.
I believe that's not possible unless you install some modified version like mpv-msix
