I am now using SyncThing to sync between my phone and my PC. On Joplin, I have to install an older version of Joplin 2.5.5 from Joplin's Github. On Joplin, I choose "File System" and paste in the location where Joplin / SyncThing transfer the file in/out. It works great. Version 2.5.6 and later used a different Android SDK which needs to be revised in order to work with local files. Version 2.5.5 is the latest version that still works with local folder.
Getting SyncThing set up takes a little getting used to. But it works really well and you don't need to use any cloud storage. However, SyncThing on PC leaves a DOS window open which can be an eyesore for some. There is a solution called, SyncTrayzor, which creates a tray icon and hide the DOS window in its own window.
