My typical process is to make use of the Spaced Repetition plugin to review every AM. Depending on how I'm feeling, I either work through notes very quickly or I take time to perform little hygiene tasks like fixing links/typos/etc. I try to limit the depth of maintenance work to a reasonable range so I don't have to do much task switching. The main question is "How much time do I want to spend working on a problem I don't know?" If such a problem comes up, I can either 1) Put pen to paper (for some reasonable time limit), 2) Click "Edit Later" to open a window for when I log in the afternoon (or even make use of "Save Workspace") 3) Lookup the solution somewhere. Typically the AM is a good time for both review and problem solving, so I think this is pretty flexible, I try not to get bogged down in actually "organizing" the vault.
After class, I should be revisiting notes because its great for memory. Spaced repetition requires your notes are atomized, so I can revisit my notes and use note refactor to push them out into their little atomized format, leaving a nice note with all the links of the material we learned that day. Usually this is a good jog of the memory, if I get it done timely (I don't like having B2B classes for this reason). A few days later, typically out having a little spiked coffee listening to music, I will go through my directories and make sure the notes are sorted according to subject - this type of sorting has also been shown to be great for memory (it's also very very satisfying).
