Theoretically, no. Linux is very versatile, and can be molded to work on pretty much anything. Including a business card.
Distro means distribution. There are hundreds of distros out there, with different package managers, desktops, and overall a different feel. You shouldn't have to worry about minimum requirements, Linux is very lightweight compared to Windows and some distros can even run on less than half a gig of ram. I would recommend you try out Linux Mint, which you can download here. If you want a distro that has the latest features and kernels, I would recommend you use Manjaro Linux, which you can download here. However, it is not as stable as Mint. To install, just flash the downloaded ISO files onto a USB Drive with Rufus. Then, follow the onscreen instruction
