new to this and would appreciate some advice about Linux compatible hardware.

  • hid-fanatecff

Driver to support FANATEC input devices, in particular ForceFeedback of various wheel-bases

  • I'm starting to think I should see if I can find an OK eBay deal for the older model CSL elite base to try it. It seems like that's the best supported model in the hid-fanatecff drivers that are available. The purpose of those drivers is to make FFB work however FF_FRICTION, and FF_INERTIA are not supported at this time. I don't know enough about how the base works to say what those do exactly though other than just guessing. I assume friction limits your ability to turn the wheel based on a value, and inertia is just inertia of rotation of the wheel, like if it's turning it will continue if you don't stop it. These both sound like features that work just fine on the g27, so that's a bit of a bummer if true.

  • oversteer

    Steering Wheel Manager for GNU/Linux

  • I've been reading a lot and discovered oversteer and the associated drivers which looks great. It looks like there has been some recent activity towards full support of a few Fanatec devices and those look like what I'd like to have. Unfortunately their product range is a bit overwhelming and I don't have a lot of experience with modular wheel/base/pedals/etc.

  • hid-tmff2

Linux kernel module for Thrustmaster T300RS, T248 and (experimental) TX and TS-XW wheels

  • It's a step down from Fanatec, though nicer than Logitech, but I've had a good experience using a Thrustmaster T300 wheel + T-LCM pedals + TH8A shifter in Linux. Getting FFB working was the trickiest part but solved with [this driver](https://github.com/Kimplul/hid-tmff2). The others were plug and play.
