Besides the thing with PeerTube, there are other FOSS projects that act as alternative frontends to YouTube, like Invidous. Some of its perks is that it shows YouTube's negative vote counts, no tracking, won't show YouTube adds and even includes Reddit comments, and in the negatives some videos won't play and (if you don't like it) you'd find its UI "terrible" as you did with PeerTube.
