(this is actually the last bit of point 4, really): Looked at README.FIRST ( https://github.com/jamesstout/no-ip/blob/master/README.FIRST ) in the noip2 directory. The instructions re getting it to run automatically on boot were a bit complex, so followed the instructions at https://www.blackmoreops.com/2020/11/18/how-to-install-the-noip2-on-ubuntu-and-run-via-systemd-systemctl-noip-dynamic-update-client/ for the 'systemd way'. In retrospect I wish I'd discovered earlier and followed the guide at https://github.com/clickonrefresh/Automate-Noip-DUC for auto download-install-configure of the noip-DUC. I allowed port 8245 (TCP) through in both directions as the noip2 README.FIRST file had instructed.
