Many popular R packages in the tidyverse ecosystem (including ggplot2) were mainly written by a Kiwi so all the arguments default to colour and most functions are spelled with British English (like summarise()). They've added a lot of American English aliases, but it's still funny how quickly I got used to the British versions.
There was a GitHub issue posted because of this spelling
