for now I've seen really good progress with distant.nvim
have you seen nvim-remote-containers? I haven't tried it yet but think this is the closest thing to what you're looking for
This repo for example https://github.com/Piotr1215/generate-k8s-yaml is part of my blog and has bunch of IaC tools and the like. It’s much easier to run the whole thing in a container without polluting your local system with tooling you might not need. On top of that it installs recommended extensions and configured VS code just the right way. This is the experience I’m looking for with nvim.
