echo "text" prints out "text". This is useful with those fancy operators I mentioned earlier. |, for example, takes the output of one program, and puts it in another. One of my programs, for example – bin2txt – is designed to use pipes for input, so to translate some binary to some text, you could use echo "01110011 01101111 01101101 01100101 00100000 01110100 01100101 01111000 01110100 00001010"|./bin2txt. Of course, it will also work just running the program and typing in the binary, but that is a less quick and easy for some quick checking.
