I'm hoping both Webpack and Babel are going to go. Webpack is slowly becoming unnecessary because of native JS modules, and while bundling accomplishes more than just bundling modules, I suspect that once we start using JS modules properly developers will realise that Webpack is actually not necessary. Babel is trickier because without it there is no JSX, but one should really think whether this particular beer is worth the hangover and if something like the hyperscript syntax isn't actually more transparent and expressive.
What I think is you can do well in React if you understand JS concepts well. I am no expert but I have been studying JS concepts from here: https://github.com/leonardomso/33-js-concepts
