    you need trayer-padding-icon.sh.. https://github.com/fleutot/.xmonad/blob/master/trayer-padding-icon.sh ..put that in your xmobar folder and add ", Run com "path/to/trayer-padding-icon.sh" [ ] "trayerpad" 20 to xmobar config...in template put ...%trayerpad% ...you may have to log out and back in to start it correctly
