I do use deduplication with borg backup. I don't use btrfs compression on any of my drives. The bulk of the space is taken up by already compressed data and I doubt deduplication would save enough space to offset the time, extent/speed hit and my doubts about the stability of btrfs deduplication.
You mentioned you where going to look into arm64 at some point. If you ever need to boot a generic aarch64 OS on a Pi there is UEFI firmware for the Pi 3 and 4. There's some info here https://rpi4-uefi.dev/ and the files are here https://github.com/pftf I tested an aarch64 build of Debian 11 RC using that UEFI firmware.
