That said, if you still want to go with k8s, one avenue you can look at are kubectl plugins. There are many available on Github and on the krew repository (https://krew.sigs.k8s.io/). Most of these plugins try to make some aspect of kubernetes user experience easier. For instance, we have written some plugins that track K8s resource topologies, metrics, logs for k8s applications. You can try our plugins by following these steps: https://github.com/cloud-ark/kubeplus#try-it Try other plugins from krew repo as well. Once you get a feel for what type of experience some of these plugins are providing then you might be able to get some ideas about what is missing in k8s or in the plugins landscape, and what you would want to see instead. That will be your project.

k3s is far easier to deal w/ for home. Use k3sup to set it up - https://github.com/alexellis/k3sup. Running 6 node RPis w/ ArgoCD, cert-manager, helm etc. Not as hard as people make it out but just like anything demands you respect it and grok it.
