  • I've been using GVT-g for a long time without issue to passthrough to my VM running my media server. I recently upgraded to 11th gen (Rocket Lake) to get the latest codec support for QuickSync, only to discover that Intel has dropped GVT-g support in Rocket Lake (and it looks like 10th gen chips are the same). I'm trying to do GVT-d instead and do a full device passthrough, since I have a serial port I can use for the host anyways, but cannot seem to get it to work.

Discontinued VBIOS for Intel GPU Passthrough

  • Which I've tried searching for and reading about for several hours at this point. Everything I come across is either people getting that error with Nvidia passthrough, or trying to dump vbios. The closest thing I've found is this post over in /r/vfio, which I guess the solution was to use this patched vbios. Upon reading that github repo though it sounds like it's for people that want to do things like MacOS vms with iGPU passthrough, unless I'm mistaken and that's actually what I need? The reddit post mentions it's for OVMF, though I also tried making a SeaBIOS vm with the exact same configuration as above and still get the same error.
