I've already talked with the dev to try to create a spanish variant of Engram, but since this is a subreddit of some keyboard layouts nerds like me who have some skills in creating layouts, I ask YOU if you could help create the perfect spanish layout. It's not easy, maybe too complex right now and there needs to be some adjustment... but come on, we NEED a spanish layout! 500 million of potential native writers will thank you for that in the long therm.
I'm not convinced that it matters in practice. If anything, I'd focus on convenient access to special symbols (like ULKL).
Later we started to see algorithmically optimised keyboards. There are several of these, won't mention them all. Halmak (2016) caught my attention because of the design process, minimizing finger travel distance, but the feedback from the users, seen in several forums, was that it is hard to type in. It seems distance is only one of several ergonomic measures to be taken into account.
