These are exactly the main things which can cause slow plotting. I used Netdata to help monitor how much page swapping was occuring. It also allows you to see the write speed of your plotting drive, and shows a graph of any discards that are happening on the drive along with a whole plethora of graphs and information to help monitor your system. It's super lightweight as well, so it uses barely any of your system resources.
