My initial attempt is to use the method they mentioned which can be found in this github link. The motivation for that project was to upgrade/rollback firmware without going into Windows. However, surface pro 4 firmware has problem extracting using the commandline tool msiextract invoked by the project and the issue can be found here. I am pretty familiar with Linux environment, but it's too much work for me to debug the MSI package extraction tool. Instead, I found a way to bypass firmware rollback mechanism within Windows.
