  • VideoLAN Client (VLC)

VLC media player - All pull requests are ignored, please follow https://wiki.videolan.org/Sending_Patches_VLC/

  • VLC supports command-line playback, but opens the GUI all the time, and I can't get it to hide

  • cmus

Small, fast and powerful console music player for Unix-like operating systems.

  • cmus is another Linux-only tool

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • mpd

    Music Player Daemon

  • Music Player Daemon (MPD is another one I can't get to work at all. It also seems very much focused around being a music server, and library manager/player, where I just want an EXE that will play a sound file I throw at it.

  • musikcube

a cross-platform, terminal-based music player, audio engine, metadata indexer, and server in c++

  • musikcube works, but is very much a fully fledged music player/library manager/GUI for the command line, and doesn't seem to be something I can run and just play the specified file

  • mocp

    Music On Console Player

  • Music on Console (MOC) is Linux-only, so won't work

  • In order to play music on my speakers I have Jellyfin running in a Firefox tab on a raspberry pi connected to the speaker. It works most of the time but needs to be restarted every once in a while. Is this a silly way to achieve this "cast to speaker using pi" goal? Is there a better way?
