I have had great luck with PASTA (https://github.com/cglatot/pasta) to set specific audio or subtitle tracks as the default for specific TV shows. I think you could run it pointed at a larger selection and set all the subtitles flagged as "English - Forced" as the default. I have mostly used it for Anime series, some with dual audio tracks, and often with different sub tracks (as in, full english subs, signs and songs, etc.)
