Transcoding in-band captions from RTMP to MPEG-DASH?

  A JavaScript project designed to extract CEA-608 captions.

  

Given the state of things, which approach would you recommend for getting time-aligned JSON from an OBS into an MPEG-DASH stream? Just transcode with -a53cc and read with cea608.js, or use ccextractor and use pipes to translate it into something like segmented WebVTT?

libcaption does work (although it has its challenges). As a project, it really needs some love. If you like Gstreamer as an alternative to FFmpeg, the Gstreamer team have just added libcaption to Gstreamer's RUST framework and are making some fixes and improvements. https://github.com/sdroege/gst-plugin-rs/tree/master/video/closedcaption/src. But GStreamer is FFmpeg's sworn enemy a whole alternative to FFmpeg.
