LibreOffice
Read-only LibreOffice core repo - no pull request (use gerrit instead https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/) - don't download zip, use https://dev-www.libreoffice.org/bundles/ instead (by LibreOffice)

But there are great alternatives such as WPS Office, Softmaker FreeOffice or OnlyOffice. They are not only highly compatible with MS Office formats, but the interfaces are alike to MS Office.
In addition to everything else suggested, I was using google docks and the rest of the suite for most of my class/homework in college, only falling back to LibreOffice when I didn't have a (good) internet connection.
