You need to load the xresources thing before you load sway. I have a wrapper script for sway which the .desktop session for the login greeter uses, instead of sway itself, something like this https://github.com/luispabon/sway-dotfiles/blob/master/ssway and https://github.com/luispabon/sway-dotfiles/blob/master/assets/ubuntu-sway.desktop
