What's your goal for the VPN? Generally I think for home users the goal for a VPN is either trying to back home when you're out of the house or trying to get somewhere far away (i.e. I want to watch the BBC). Personally all I care about is the first case - and for that I'm using tailscale - https://tailscale.com/. It ends up being a wrapper for wireguard. For my use case it's free and lets me easily farm out the account end of a vpn to google. Plus it does mesh networking which ends up making it easy for me to share stuff with friends.
