If you look at that image, you can see the stark difference Starlight makes (this is taken from the fabric version of starlight: https://github.com/Spottedleaf/Starlight). This is achieved by completely rewriting the light engine from scratch, which has been quite controversial as for example: the paper maintainers are afraid of implementing it into paper because only SpottedLeaf will be easily able to maintain it. Regardless, the benefits are astonishing, and could help you run a server on the latest version without needing to pregenerate your world, or just with better performance.
