That said, did you create his prescribed docker-compose.yml (edited with your server name, world, password, variable your prefer, etc) in your home directory and run it from there? He outlines it in his getting started page. I goofed a couple times in setting things up and had to restart. Did you try fully starting over? Is your user in the docker group? Make sure the above-mentioned compose file is in /home/[your-username] and then run:
I was briefly running mbround18's dedicated server, also on Ubuntu Server 20.04.2 and it worked both with Docker and Podman without even touching firewall settings. I only stopped running it because I could not for the life of me import my world properly with that container (which explains why I tried both Docker and Podman). I instead went with lloesche/valheim-server, which I'm running with Podman (because rootless containers). It's got the same features as far as I can tell and my world imported with no issue.
