I'm going to leave Windows to move permanently to Linux Fedora (I've been using Windows + Ubuntu for several years now), can you help me with some questions about Fedora?

  • nix

Nix, the purely functional package manager

  • In general yes, especially considering that the Snaps found on Ubuntu are distro-agnostic. However, I wouldn't recommend you to go that route because Snaps aren't properly confined in non-Ubuntu distros. Instead, I'd recommend you to install it through either Flatpak, Nix or Distrobox; an Ubuntu distrobox can be setup to function as your access-point to all the packages that are found on the Ubuntu repositories.

  • flatpak

Linux application sandboxing and distribution framework

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • distrobox

Use any linux distribution inside your terminal. Enable both backward and forward compatibility with software and freedom to use whatever distribution you’re more comfortable with. Mirror available at: https://gitlab.com/89luca89/distrobox

  • ublue

A familiar(ish) Ubuntu desktop for Fedora Silverblue.

  • https://ublue.it This is a version of a different fedora product, silverblue instead of workstation. It includes Nvidia drivers, it’s suited for games and you can use jdownloader just like you could on fedora workstation. It’s technically different in a way that makes it more robust and would also allow for easy change between gnome and kde.

  • glib

Low-level core library that forms the basis for GTK+ and GNOME (by bratsche)

  • Mate https://mate-desktop.org/ would be decent for GTK apps. https://www.gtk.org

  • caja

Caja, the file manager for the MATE desktop (by mate-desktop)
