Understanding if NextJS is a viable replacement for Symfony

You do know you can use Symfony to just serve API endpoints right? I’m not saying that’s my preferred solution but they do provide that functionality. I’d prefer something like NestJS but my job requires PHP (ugh) so I’m using Symfony with React (using Encore which uses webpack).
