  • Regarding best practices, the best practice now is definitely using functions. This is taught in the official React documentation (https://react.dev/). Personally I learnt class-based components first, then found that it was outdated. But I found the concepts of lifecycle methods being very useful, and its just a matter of finding the equivalent in function-based components.
