What are some of the more innovative linux distributions?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • guix

Read-only mirror of GNU Guix — pull requests are ignored, see https://guix.gnu.org/en/manual/en/guix.html#Submitting-Patches instead (by guix-mirror)

  • GNU Guix! A fully functional package manager and distro heavily inspire by Nix. The primary difference between it and Nix being that it is almost entirely written and configured in GNU Guile, an implementation of Scheme (Lisp) and the official extension language of the GNU Project (originally intended to be for GNU what emacs lisp is for emacs).

  • silverblue-site

Discontinued Historic website for Fedora Silverblue. Now at https://gitlab.com/fedora/websites-apps/fedora-websites/fedora-websites-3.0

  • Fedora Silverblue - pretty well-known at this point, but it’s championing immutability

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • bedrocklinux-userland

This tracks development for the things such as scripts and (defaults for) config files for Bedrock Linux

  • Bedrock Linux. It is allows you to make a system out of various seemingly-incompatible parts of other distros. I haven't gotten around to trying it myself, but it's really cool.

  • systemd

The systemd System and Service Manager

  • A change is in the works to introduce a so-called 'soft-reboot'. This aims to only reboot the userspace. With this, a 'hardware-reboot' will only be required for kernel-updates(/changes).

  • ublue

A familiar(ish) Ubuntu desktop for Fedora Silverblue.

  • Universal Blue - Not a separate distro, but a project based on Fedora Silverblue that delivers the operating system content using an OCI container. Some of the OCI images are described as "Fedora/Kinoite with Batteries Included", and there are some custom OCIs as well.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.
