Bug bounty is very different to pentesting, you should see my pentesting skills (not great!)! I think there's a place for both in a security team, particularly as bug hunters will find different vulnerabilities than a pentester. Automation is currently having a big impact on bug bounties, but I don't actually think it will continue. Right now the hackers are using automation and the defenders aren't as much, but tools like Nuclei aren't just limited to attackers anymore. I think as we reach peak hype we'll see automation die down as it won't be as effective to find vulnerabilities anymore. As for AI, one of the issues is that any ML development, particularly for effective models, require a high level of knowledge in both ML/stats and in security, and that expertise is missing at the moment. So I think we'll see automation increase until we have full hype, but maybe not ML. Hard to say though, this is just my opinion.
