  • awesome-selfhosted

A list of Free Software network services and web applications which can be hosted on your own servers

  • Make sure you have something like zfs so you have some level of redundancy. My os drive failed I reinstalled, mounted the zfs volume and was back up in an hour without data loss Check out https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted this list of cool applications if you're wondering what to use for individual requirements. If you don't have a lot of experience with different solutions check out something like truenas (free tier) or umbrel which both function as a kind of app store where you can pick what you want and manage updates. I haven't used umbrel but it has a built-in dash. Finally think about what you want exposed if it's nothing then maybe you want a VPN like wireguard or a service like tailscale (free for limited number of devices). If you want services exposed you might want to use CloudFlare as an easy entry point. Not the tip you were looking for but umbrel and tailscale for a year to get your bearing they would allow you to quickly play with a bunch of tools to figure which ones you like. The other tip I would give you is to document your journey, record commands and steps so if you want to build something new you know what was needed it's nice to have steps if something goes wrong.

  • WorkOS
