I put a lot of thought into making my keymap optimized for the bits of VIM that I use everyday. You can see more about it here.

  Miryoku is an ergonomic, minimal, orthogonal, and universal keyboard layout.

I think it's hard to go wrong with Miryoku, but I found reaching for the dedicated escape key hurt my thumb. I find it much easier to access it using layers. I just made sure it's accessible with one hand for both hands.
