Also looked into this project for using the Usb OTG port instead: https://github.com/anotherlab/UsbSerialForAndroid Running the example app works, and it detects the device, but I cant understand how to utilize this library/project to send a simple text to the device..?

One project that uses it is OSDP-Bench. It looks like AndroidSerialPortConnection.cs could help you. It uses `UsbSerialPort` and has a write method and a read method in there.
