If you haven't noticed, 2b2t "updated" to 1.19 today as an April Fools joke with a temp map. What you might have missed though, was the fact that the server had nearly 600 people on with an almost solid TPS of 19-20. This should be completely impossible on current versions of Minecraft. So how is this possible then? There has been a new massive development in the Minecraft hosting space called Folia, which essentially splits the main Minecraft tick loop into multiple parallel ones, thereby allowing a lot more players on a single Minecraft server. This technology is still in its early alpha stages, so it is not ready to be deployed to an actual server yet, however when it is ready, it will fundamentally change 2b2t and Minecraft multiplayer as a whole.
