CLI and Web-Based Save Editor for Borderlands 3

  • Hi! :) This is the BL3 editor I use: https://github.com/cfi2017/bl3-save/releases/tag/v1.0.30 Scroll down to your system (it's probably Windows_x86) and download the one for you. To mod a character save, first make a backup of your save file so if it gets hosed you don't lose the character. On PC, you will need to have Borderlands 3 running, and you will need to be in-game with a character you are NOT modding or the game will overwrite your changes. You should set whatever platform (Epic, Steam) to backup your saves FROM your computer TO the cloud, or it'll download your unmodded save file. It can be helpful to have the character you're modding open in the game to look at what you have, but to save your changes in the editor, you'll need to exit the game to the main menu and load a different character before you hit "save." Pay attention to what you're doing because I'm a clumsy idiot and several times I've lost a half hour of work because I saved something wrong and then closed the editor. XD Make backups, make backups. On the PC open the save file in the editor and if you look at it for a bit it should make sense. Most of the gun/item components list their effects in the editor so you can really decide what build you want. It has a tab for importing items from LootLemon with *most* of the game's items so you don't have to hunt for codes. It has a button for copying an item code so you can put it on a list to copy-paste and you don't have to build your modded gear from scratch each time. It has 63 slots for each item that you can fill (unmodded items usually only use like 10 or 12 of those slots) with additional stuff ("My shield has 32 slots just for Recharge Delay!"). As for mixing items (like my Vladof Sickle with a Shredifier alt-fire) it's mostly experimentation. I feel like it's only possible to combine components from 2 Legendaries (try a Spy Revolver barrel on any Jakobs gun!) but I'm sort of lazy and really only mess with stuff I use regularly. There's a tab for modding your save profile (anything shared across your characters, like Guardian Rank or Golden Keys) but you need to be completely out of the game to mod it. I REALLY REALLY REALLY recommend making a backup or two of this file (there's two actually, profile.bak and profile.sav.bak in your character save folder) because the admittedly very little experimenting I did turned into a serious pain in the butt. Experiment and see where you get, tho! :) And sometimes in the editor the names don't match the part names, like how the Free Radical barrel is Barrel_Deatomizer2. The Wiki shows the unique item codes under the item name, which helps me. :) I can probably answer questions if you have any, but I find it pretty simple to use. :)
