Aesthetics mainly. I love how clean the white controller looks without tape on it, it looks like a frat house controller with tape over it. I also bought the deck specifically to tinker and tape just feels like I'm selling out. I just setup Xone (https://github.com/medusalix/xone) on my PC and it did dim the LED, I decided to just install it on the deck.
