  • notesnook

A fully open source & end-to-end encrypted note taking alternative to Evernote.

  • Opt-in vs opt-out When you start the app, there is no warning that telemetry is being collected. No prompt to opt in or out. Nothing. By default, it is set to collect telemetry. In December 2021, a GitHub issue was filed regarding the telemetry being on by default. For those bad with dates, that's over a year ago. It's still just sitting there, unresolved. In August 2022 (5-6 months ago), the co-founder of Notesnook, thewisefarmerr, stated, "Hey thanks for pointing this out. We will change that to opt-in soon." See source here. I don't know if soon means another year of waiting, but I'm not holding my breath. It is bewildering that so many slick features have been so meticulously implemented, and yet this extremely-simple-to-add promise of a co-founder has remained incomplete.
